The Federal Bureau of Investigation says more Ohioans are applying for gun permits this year than ever before.
The FBI ran 276,156 background checks - the seventh-most in the United States - on Ohio gun buyers in the first half of this year.
The total is projected at more than 550,000 checks for 2012, which would be an 18-percent increase over the year before. Background checks by the FBI in Ohio last year increased by 19 percent over 2010.
Data shows gun sales in the Buckeye State have been on the rise for years. Violent crime, on the other hand, is down.
